If you had an N64, you played Shadows of the Empire, and you loved it, and you were terrified of the IG-88 fight, or maybe that was just me.

1977 Star Wars Convention by the Society of Florida
As a Floridian, Orlandonian, and Star Wars fan this is a great piece of local fan-history.
From Schappy: In October 1977, I belonged to the Star Wars Society of Florida and we hosted the first Star Wars Convention in Orlando and possibly the country.
We called it the Explosition and it was held at the University of Central Florida UCF. (FTU at that time). It was big success with several hundred people attending. We went on to meet for a couple years and sponsored events and parties around Orlando.
Keep in mind there were no sanctioned conventions at that time and no real merchandising. All the costumes and props, like light sabres, were hand made. Here are some memorabilia from that time.
I definitely encourage any current member of the Star Wars Grand Florida Alliance to take some inspiration from their predecessors, or any fans from the Sunshine state to reblog. Definitely photos and a story we don’t hear often!
A little early for 90s Star Wars, but too cool to not share.
